JACKSON, Miss. - The Spring Hill College men's basketball team fell 70-47 to the 19th ranked Tougaloo College Bulldogs in a non-conference contest at Kroger Gymnasium on Monday night.
Down 12-5 early, Spring Hill junior guard Tyler Schwab of Panama City, Fla., and freshman forward Alex Looney from Murphy High School in Mobile dropped in consecutive 3-point buckets to cut the score to 12-11 just seven minutes into the game.
A 10-0 run by the Bulldogs combined with a 4-minute field goal drought by the Badgers left Spring Hill trailing 33-24 at the halftime intermission.
Tougaloo (20-4) jumped on the Badgers early and often in the second period, outscoring Spring Hill 7-0 over the first two minutes and 13-2 in the first five minutes.
With 10 minutes remaining on the clock, the Bulldogs had taken control of the game with a 53-35 lead over the Badgers.
Freshman guard Charles Gordon of Birmingham led SHC with 15 points and senior center Nick Brown from Rota, Spain, scored 13 points with a game-high eight rebounds. Looney finished the night with 10 points for the Badgers.
Tougaloo (20-4) was led by Marquis Mems with 24 points and Juan Gray with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Badgers shot 34% (18-52) from the field and 20% (2-10) from 3-point territory.
Tougaloo shot an impressive 47% (29-61) from the field and made 35% (6-17) of their 3-point attempts.
Spring Hill (8-15, 2-6 SSAC West) will return home to the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. to face conference foe Faulkner University (8-17, 3-5 SSAC West).
