The Spring Hill College women's basketball team upset the Faulkner University Lady Eagles 77-76 in a conference decision at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday evening.
Trailing by seven points at the half at 36-29, the Badgers regrouped in the locker room and fought back to tie the game at 55-55 with 8:38 remaining in the game.
The Badgers pulled out to as much as a 6-point advantage with 6:45 left with a score of 63-57, but Faulkner answered back to tie the game at 64 with four minutes to go.
Four consecutive Badgers free throws pushed Spring Hill back out in front 77-71 with just 35 seconds left, but a lay up by Katie Pavlik with 25 seconds and a 3-pointer by Spenser Cantrell cut the score to 77-76 with 1 second left. SHC was able to successfully in-bound the ball and run out the clock for the win.
Senior center Kimarie Bock of Dunedin, Fla., scored 24 points to led the Badgers. Freshman forward Sha Sha Buchanan of McGill-Toolen High scored 12 points and junior forward Erica Wright of Pace, Fla., added 11 with freshman guard Bria Bohanon from Ponchatoula, La., contributing 10 points.
The Lady Eagles' Brittney Carter led all scorers with 30 points and 16 rebounds.
Spring Hill shot 50.8% (31-61) overall and 33.3% (4-12) from 3-point territory while turning the ball over 18 times and taking down 30 rebounds.
Faulkner (18-8, 4-5 SSAC West) also shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field and was 6-of-14 (35.3%) in 3-point attempts. The Lady Eagles committed 23 turnovers as the Badgers took away nine steals.
Spring Hill (10-17, 2-7 SSAC West) will host archrivals the University of Mobile Lady Rams (14-9, 4-5 SSAC) in a conference match this Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. The Mobile Chapter of the SHC Alumni Association will host a parking lot tailgate party before the game.
