The Spring Hill College men's basketball team won a 67-64 decision over the Faulkner University Eagles in a conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Thursday night.
The Badgers trailed by a score of 36-29 at the half after being outscored 10-3 over the final four minutes of the period, but a 14-6 run by SHC tied the score at 46 six minutes into the second half.
From there the Badgers built out as much as a 12 point advantage at 63-51 with five minutes remaining, but Faulkner had one more run left in the tank.
Back-to-back 3-point buckets by the Eagles' Chris Palmore made it a 4-point game at 63-59 with three minutes to go. Palmore would add a layup with 45 seconds to go to make it a 65-64 contest, but two free throws by SHC freshman guard Charles Gordon at 4 seconds made it 67-64. Faulkner's last second attempt at a trey to tie was foiled as Palmore stepped on the sideline while receiving a pass with .5 seconds showing.
Junior guard Tyler Schwab of Panama City, Fla., led the Badgers with 18 points junior guard Steve Edwards of Newton, Miss., dropped in 13 points. Senior center Nick Brown had 12 points with seven rebounds and freshman guard Charles Gordon scored 11 points.
Faulkner (8-18, 3-6 SSAC West) was led by Palmore with 24 points and eight rebounds.
The Badgers shot 47.1% (24-51) from the field and 37.5% (6-16) from 3-point territory.
Faulkner shot 32.8% (20-61) from the field and made 38.1% (8-21) of their 3-point attempts.
Spring Hill (9-15, 3-6 SSAC West) will be back at home in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center this Saturday night at 7 p.m. versus archrivals the University of Mobile Rams (13-12, 6-3 SSAC West). Before the game, the Mobile Chapter of the SHC Alumni Association will host a tailgate party in the parking lot.
