MONTGOMERY, Ala. - On Saturday morning at the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Crossover Tournament hosted by Faulkner University, the Spring Hill College softball team lost a pair of games, falling 4-3 to Truett-McConnell College before dropping a 5-1 decision to 10th ranked Shorter University.
Sam Brooks (0-3) pitched the first game against TMC for the Badgers and allowed three hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks. Brooks and Kayla Moran were both 2-for-3 at the plate and Jenny Laird was 3-for-4.
Brittany Fields (1-1) pitched the second contest against Shorter and went five scoreless innings before allowing a run in the 6th and four run in the 7th inning. Fields ended the day allowing seven hits and four walks.
The Badgers scored their lone run of the game when Laird was hit by a pitch and was pinch run for by Kaitlyn McMellon who was promptly sacrificed to second base by Haley Brown. Holli Smith then picked up the RBI with a double.
Brooke Turlich collected two of the Badgers' five hits in Game 2.
SHC (1-4) will open its home schedule on Tuesday with an exhibition doubleheader versus Northwest Florida State College at 12 p.m. on Murray Field.
