The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost to the University of Mobile Lady Rams 72-62 in a conference decision at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday night.
After leading by as much a nine points with just four minutes to go in the half, the Badgers held a slim 30-29 lead at the intermission.
Spring Hill led for most of the second half, but two free throws by Mobile's Adrienne Mackay gave the Lady Rams a 54-52 advantage with six minutes to play.
From there, Mobile didn't look back and expanded their lead to nine points with two minutes remaining and as much as 13 points with 20 seconds remaining.
Freshman guard Tempey Hamilton from Murphy High School in Mobile scored 17 points for Spring Hill while fellow freshman guard Bria Bohanon of Ponchatoula, La., added 134 points and senior center Kimarie Bock of Dunedin, Fla., and freshman forward Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School contributed 10 points each.
The Lady Rams' center Alice Honnery led all scorers with 21 points and 15 rebounds as Mackay added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Spring Hill shot 41.9% (26-62) overall and 36.4% (4-11) from 3-point territory while turning the ball over 18 times and taking down 29 rebounds.
Mobile (15-9, 5-5 SSAC West) shot a scorching 51.8% (29-56) from the field and was 2-of-7 (28.6%) in 3-point attempts. The Lady Rams committed 17 turnovers as the Badgers took away eight steals. Mobile won the war of the boards with 37 rebounds and outscored SHC 44-28 in the paint.
Spring Hill (10-18, 2-8 SSAC West) will travel to Belhaven University (22-6, 10-1 SSAC) for a conference tilt on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
