The Spring Hill College baseball team took both halves of a doubleheader with Tougaloo College on Saturday by the scores of 8-2 and 11-0 to complete a 3-game weekend sweep of the Bulldogs at Stan Galle Field.
In the first match-up, the Badgers jumped on top with a run in the 1st inning and two more in the 2nd before Tougaloo (0-11) scratched out an unearned run in the 3rd inning.
The 4th inning saw Badger shortstop Ryan Cummings set a new SHC career triples mark at 10 when he lifted a ball into deep right field and was then driven home with a double by catcher Brad Holstein.
Holstein added his second homer of the year in the 5th inning as SHC coasted to the 8-2 win.
Along with Cummings' and Holstein's two hits apiece, second baseman Brian Sims corralled two hits and two RBI while also scoring twice.
Joe Carter (2-2) went the distance for Spring Hill allowing nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Alexander Sanders (0-2) took the complete game loss and gave up 11 hits and six earned runs with three walks and a strikeout.
The second game saw Spring Hill erupt for five runs in the 2nd inning and six runs in the 3rd before the game ended via the 10-run Mercy Rule in the 5th frame.
James Maughn (2-2) and David Dupuy combined for the shutout allowing just one hit each.
Simms added two more hits and four more RBI to his totals in the nightcap.
The Badgers (8-6) will begin their conference slate at archrival the University of Mobile (10-5) with a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. and a Saturday doubleheader at noon.
