The Spring Hill College softball team rallied to cut a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to 4-3 against Martin Methodist College at the University of Mobile Classic on Sunday, but a double play by the MMC infield ended the threat as the Badgers fell to 3-9 on the year.
Sam Brooks (1-6) pitched a complete-game in the loss and gave up seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts as MMC scored two in the 4th and two in the 6th inning to come back from a 2-0 SHC lead after the first two frames.
Chrissy Worth was the winner for Martin Methodist and allowed eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
At the plate for the Badgers, Stephanie Fair enjoyed a 3-for-4 night with a run driven in and Brooke Turlich collected two hits and an RBI.
Martin Methodist was paced by Amber Kinsey's 2-for-3 outing while Carrie Morris drove in the two go-ahead runs in the 6th with a double to right field.
SHC will next play Thomas University (Ga.) in a doubleheader at Gulf Shores, Ala., on Thursday at 1 p.m.
