John Hollingsworth's walk-off, bases-loaded, 2-out single to left field in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Spring Hill College a 3-2 victory over the visiting Emmanuel College Lions on Friday night at Stan Galle Field.
The Badgers had taken a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Lions' third baseman Will Gretsch made a wild throw to home with one out and the bases loaded allowing two Badgers to cross the plate on the error.
SHC starter Casey Adams (3-1) cruised through the first five innings, but became his own worst enemy in the 6th when his attempted pick off at first base sailed wide and allowed the runner to move to third with no outs. EC centerfielder Eric Esquilin would pick up the RBI with a grounder to second base a few pitches later to make it a 2-1 game.
Adams continued roll and took the 2-1 advantage into the 9th when Lions' first baseman Kelly Williams led off the frame by slapping a triple into the right field corner and then scored off a sacrifice fly to right by shortstop Alex Delgado to knot the game at two runs each.
Hollingsworth's heroics, however, saved the day for Spring Hill after Adams pitched himself out of a second consecutive jam in the 10th with a runner on third and no outs via a strikeout, a towering infield pop up and a fly ball to right center.
Adams closed the day with a 10-inning, complete game, win and allowed just six hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
Blaine Seagraves went eight strong innings for Emmanuel in the no-decision with five hits two walks and seven strikeouts. JoJo Bonet (2-2) took the loss in 1.2 innings of relief with one hit, four walks (2 intentionally) and a strikeout.
At the plate, left fielder Kendell Carvin had two hits with a run scored fro SHC while Delgado had two hits with an RBI for the Lions.
The Badgers (10-10) and Emmanuel (12-13) will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader at Stan Galle Field at 1 p.m.
