ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - The Spring Hill College softball team lost two games by the scores of 5-4 to Bethel University (Tenn.) and 9-0 to Southern Nazarene University at the opening day of the Gulf Coast Invitational at Gulf Shores SportsPlex on Friday afternoon.
In the first game versus Bethel, Lindsey Davis went 2-for-4 at the plate and Brooke Cary finished 2-3 for BU as the Wildcats (5-2) defeated Spring Hill 5-4 thanks in large part to a 3-run 4th inning.
For Spring Hill in Game 1, Brooke Turlich finished with a 2-for-4 outing, Kayla Moran went 2-for-3 and Katelyn Hinson was a perfect 2-for-2. Brittany Fields got the loss for the Badgers after giving up four hits and fanning two Wildcats.
In the second game against SNU, Kaci Crawford got the win for the Crimson Storm (16-5) by limiting the Badger lineup to just one hit and striking out seven batters. Sam Brooks took the loss after giving up nine hits and striking out one batter.
Junior first baseman Katie Hale paced Southern Nazarene at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort while Kayla Moran recorded Spring Hill's only hit - a double.
SHC (4-12) will remain in Orange Beach on Saturday to face 7th ranked Lee University (9-4) at 9 a.m. and 19th ranked University of Houston-Victoria (11-5) at 5 p.m.
