ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - The Spring Hill College softball team lost twice on Saturday in the Gulf Coast Invitational at the Gulf Shores SportsPlex with both downturns coming at the hands to NAIA Top 20 programs. No. 7 Lee downed the Badgers in the morning session by a score of 3-1 and No. 19 University of Houston-Victoria took a 6-1 decision later that evening.
The Badgers took the 7th-ranked Lady Flames to extras, but Lee (11-4) took the game 3-1 in 8 innings.
Caitlin Beshears picked up the win for Lee by limiting the Badgers to one run on five hits in 5.1 innings of work. Samantha Brooks took the loss for Spring Hill and gave up three runs on eight hits in a complete-game effort. She also fanned five batters and walked none.
Ana Coscorrosa and Charlie Wooden each finished with two hits for the Lady Flames while the top five hitters in the lineup recorded at least one hit apiece. Spring Hill managed only five hits with Brooks and Katelyn Hinson each going 1-for-3.
A Badger error and a Hernanza Ruiz RBI-single plated the two Lee runs in the top of the 8th inning.
