JACKSON, Tenn. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named Spring Hill College's Lynleigh Hughes as a 2010-11 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete.
Hughes, a senior forward from Hammond, La., won the award for the second consecutive season. Majoring in Pre-Health, she averaged 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game this season while handing out 76 assists, taking away 35 steals and blocking six shots.
Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. The NAIA awarded the honor to a total of 127 women's basketball players this season.
Since the award's inception in 1980, Spring Hill College has now had 119 student-athletes win NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
