JACKSON, Miss. - The Spring Hill College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at 9th-rated Belhaven University by the scores of 4-0 and 6-0 to open the 2011 conference schedule on Wednesday afternoon.
 
SHC starter Sam Brooks (5-11) and Sarah Burns (15-2) for the Lady Blazers (25-3, 3-1 SSAC West) went scoreless for the first two innings, but the Belhaven offense managed to strike first in the bottom of the 3rd inning when left fielder Rian O'Bannon doubled in 2 runs with a 1-out shot to center.
 
Brooks went the distance in the loss with 5 hits allowed, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Burns for Belhaven was the winner allowing just 2 hits with 1 strikeout and no walks.
 
The Lady Blazers continued to roll in the nightcap winning 6-0 as SHC starter Brittany Fields (2-9) took the loss in 2 innings with 7 hits allowed.
 
Badger designated player Brooke Turlich of Belle Chasse, La., collected 3 hits on the afternoon.
 
SHC (7-20, 0-2 SSAC West) will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., on Monday to face 2nd-ranked William Carey University (26-1, 0-0 SSAC West) in doubleheader action starting at 4 p.m.
