The Spring Hill College softball team was swept in a conference doubleheader by the 11th-ranked University of Mobile Lady Rams by the scores of 3-0 and 7-1 at Murray Field on Sunday afternoon.
In the first game, SHC starter Sam Brooks (5-13) and Mobile's Victoria Buie went head-to-head in a classic pitchers' duel that was scoreless until the top of the 5th inning when the Lady Rams scored two unearned runs off two errors by the Badger infield.
Mobile (25-7, 7-1 SSAC West) then added a run in the 6th inning to take the opener in a score of 3-0. Buie went the distance in the win and gave up just two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Designated player Milagros Lozada collected two hits for the Rams.
Brooks took the complete-game loss surrendering six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Badger designated player Brooke Turlich ripped a double down the left field line in the 1st inning.
Game 2 saw the Lady Rams score three unearned runs in the 1st frame when third baseman Jessica Swanson pounded a 3-run triple in the gap at right-center with two outs.
Spring Hill answered with a run in the bottom of the inning via an RBI-single to left-center by third baseman Stephanie Fair off Ram starter Kamaron Strickland.
Mobile expanded the lead to 5-1 in the 2nd inning with a 2-RBI single to left by second baseman Jessica Rogers with two outs and then added single runs in the 5th and 6th innings to take home the 7-1 victory.
Rams' catcher Nicole Walker was 4-for-4 with two runs scored while Rogers had three hits and first baseman Erica Bracey and two hits including an RBI-double in the 6th inning. Strickland also was a complete-game winner with six hits, a walk and three strikeouts.
Brittany Fields (2-11) took the loss while going the distance and allowing 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Kayla Moran at second base and Fair both had two hits for Spring Hill.
The Badgers (7-24, 0-6 SSAC West) will next host Faulkner University (16-13, 2-6 SSAC West) in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 p.m. on Murray Field.
