MARIETTA, Ga. - 15th-ranked Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) took a nonconference win over Spring Hill College by the score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at Walter J. Kelly, Jr. Field to finish off a 3-game series sweep of the Badgers.
The Runnin' Hornets (26-10) scored three unearned runs in the 1st inning following three errors by the Badgers and added single runs in the 5th and 7th innings to coast to the 5-0 home win.
SHC starter Stephen Herrington took the loss (1-5) going six innings with two earned runs off nine hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
Tucker Stone was the winner for the Hornets in five innings of work with three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Freshman second baseman Brian Sims of SHC extended his current hitting streak to eight games with a bunt single in the 1st inning.
Centerfielder Demarcus Tidwell collected three hits and scored a run to pace SPSU at the plate.
The Badgers (12-25) will next meet the University of Mobile (23-14) in a single non-conference game at Stan Galle Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
