The Spring Hill College softball team was swept in a conference doubleheader by the Faulkner University Lady Eagles by the scores of 6-4 and 3-0 at Murray Field on Tuesday afternoon.
In the first game, SHC starter Sam Brooks (5-15) held a 4-2 lead in the 7th inning before Faulkner first baseman Heather Smith lifted a 1-out, bases-loaded double into the gap in deep right-center to clear the bases and turn a 2-run deficit into a 5-4 Eagle advantage. Wilkes would then cap the rally by scoring off a single to left by designated player Scottie Wilkes two batters later.
Brooks went the distance in the loss and allowed seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Katy Wiggins (5-4) picked up the win in relief in 5.2 innings of work with three hits two walks and no strikeouts.
Shortstop Haley Munroe was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Faulkner while Wilkes had two hits and three RBI for the visitors from Montgomery in the opener.
SHC catcher Haley Brown had a hit with two RBI for the Badgers and left fielder Kayla Tompkins blasted a run-scoring double off the top of the fence in left-center to spark a 3-run 2nd inning for Spring Hill.
In Game 2, Brooks again went the distance for SHC, but dropped a 3-0 decision as Faulkner scored an unearned run in the 3rd inning and Smith ripped another 7th inning hit up the middle for a 2-RBI single with 2-outs.
Brooks allowed seven hits in the second game with two walks and five strikeouts while throwing 255 pitches on the afternoon.
Missy Dukes of Faulkner evened her record at 4-4 on the year with the complete-game victory and allowed just two hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Smith was 3-for-4 with two RBI in the nightcap for Faulkner (18-13, 4-6 SSAC West).
