HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Spring Hill College baseball team lost a conference road game to the William Carey University Crusaders by a score of 3-0 on Friday night.
After a 90-minute rain delay postponed the first pitch until 7:30 p.m., Carey (21-21, 4-9 SSAC West) scored first in the bottom of the 3rd inning when catcher Quin Stokes lifted a run-scoring double into the gap at left-centerfield.
The Crusaders struck again in the 7th inning when consecutive doubles by the bottom of the Carey order, centerfielder Will White and designated hitter Michael Lindsey, made it a 2-0 score. A wild pitch by Adams with two outs in the inning plated a second run of the frame.
SHC starter Casey Adams (3-5) took the complete-game loss allowing 10 hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
Carey's Scotty Reese (4-4) gave up seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in earning the shutout.
At the plate, Carey was paced by third baseman Jared Rogers with three hits and second baseman Jordan Prout with two hits.
Spring Hill's freshman second baseman Brian Sims extended his current hitting streak to 15 games with two singles.
The Badgers (13-31, 2-11 SSAC West) will continue this 3-game series at William Carey with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
