COLUMBUS, Ga. - A very young Spring Hill College women's golf team shot a 2-round team score of 690 (+114) to finish in 4th place out of seven teams at the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Women's Golf Championships at the Country Club of Columbus on Monday and Tuesday.
The Badgers struggled to a 356 (+68) score on Monday, but regrouped to shoot a final round score of 334 (+46) over the par-72, 5827-yard course on Tuesday to close the 2010-11 season.
Individually for the Badgers, freshman Avery Kyle of Frisco, Texas, finished in 6th place out of 35 golfers with a score of 163 (85, 78, +19) to earn recognition on the 2011 SSAC All-Tournament team.
Junior Annmarie Coan of St. Louis, Mo., closed with a score of 170 (87, 83, +26) to finish in 14th position and senior Victoria Gonzalez of Miami, Fla., closed out her career in SHC purple carding a 174 (91, 83, +30) in 17th place.
Freshman Katie Callahan of Prairie Village, Kan., finished with a score of 183 (93, 90 +39) to place 20th and freshman Audrey Dombrowski of St. Louis, marked a 198 (99, 99, +54) score and landed in 26th place.
"For a team made up for three freshmen to come into a conference tournament this tough and to come away in the middle of the pack after having a tough first round says a lot about what the near future holds for this team," said Head Coach Steve Hodges. "I'm proud of what we did this year and we now know what is needed and expected to make a run next year."
