The Spring Hill College women's soccer team took a 5-0 non-conference decision over the visiting Texas College Steers in the second day of the "The Classic on the Hill" at Library Field on Saturday morning.
Senior Amber O'Connor of Ham Lake, Minn., opened the Badger scoring with a goal off an assist from freshman Tatiana Gonzalez of Ocean Springs, Miss., in the 10th minute of play.
Freshman Erin Claxton from Calgary, Alberta, Canada scored in the 34th minute with an assist from senior Abby Galen of St. Louis, Mo.
Later, Galen would start a two-assist goal in the 49th minute with an entry pass to her sister freshman Madeline Galen who then slipped the ball to senior Katie Pendergast from St. Louis who ripped in a 10-footer.
In the 54th minute, Pendergast added an assist to her totals when she found senior Elaine Femmer of St. Louis for the fourth Badger goal of the day. Madeline Galen collected her first career goal in the 68th minute off an assist from O'Connor.
In goal, freshman Abby Massengale of New Orleans, La. picked up her first career win in the shutout with one save and sophomore Cassandra Amore of Pace, Fla., finished the final 32 minutes of play and also made a save. The Badger defense allowed just two shots on the day by Texas College.
Goalkeeper Diana Martinez made five saves for the Steers (0-2) against 20 Badger shots.
Spring Hill (1-1) will next host the Lyon College (Ark.) Scots (1-0) in a non-conference tilt at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at Library Field.
