The Spring Hill College men's soccer team continued their strong start to the 2011 season with a solid 4-1 non-conference victory over the visiting Lyon College Scots in the final day of the "The Classic on the Hill" at Library Field on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Tyler Hartlage from Tampa, Fla., scored the opening two goals of the contest via an assist by senior Josh Ledet of Fairhope, Ala., in the 15th minute of play and off an assist by sophomore Patrick Culotta of New Orleans, La., in the 28th minute.
Culotta would find himself on the payoff end of a goal in the 31st minute when he accepted a pass from freshman Mario Escalante from Bolivia to make it a 3-0 Badger advantage at the break.
Escalante later notched an unassisted tally of his own for his first career goal in the 71st minute.
Lyon (0-2) would avoid a shutout with a penalty kick goal off the foot of Robert Hall in the 86th minute.
Senior Spring Hill College goalkeeper Cory Bronenkamp pocketed his 14th career victory while making three saves against eight shots by the Scots. Lyon keeper Thomas Guarino made three saves against 14 Badger shots.
Spring Hill (2-0) will next travel to Pineville, La., to face Louisiana College (0-0) in a non-conference game slated for a 3 p.m. start on Saturday.
