The Spring Hill College volleyball team swept a 3-0 decision from Concordia College-Selma by the scores of 25-8, 25-7, 25-5 on Wednesday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Badgers used an 8-point run behind the serving of senior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, to build out a 15-4 advantage in the first set. Cao's run included five service aces, but she was out done is the second set by senior middle blocker Holly Shultis of Pewaukee, Wis., who served 14 consecutive points including four aces to stake Spring Hill to a 17-2 lead.
Cao, along with sophomore Sha Sha Buchanan of McGill-Toolen High and sophomore Jessica Hall of Faith Academy, collected four kills as the Badgers outscored the Hornets 49-8. Sophomore setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., handed out 11 assists while freshman setter Maddie LaForge of New Orleans, La. dished out nine assists.
Shultis finished the night with seven aces and five kills to lead all scorers with 13 total points.
Leniya Gover scored three kills with five digs and 17 receptions for Concordia.
The Badgers (2-0) will travel to Jackson, Miss., on Friday to play in the Millsaps College Invitational beginning with a 1:30 p.m. match versus Mississippi College followed by a bout with the University of New Orleans at 3:30 p.m.
