In its first meet of the season, the Spring Hill College men's cross country team took home the championship at the 2011 Mobile Challenge of Champions Badger Brawl that ran at Langan Municipal Park on Saturday.
As a team, the Badgers scored 34 points and averaged 18:00.31 over the 5-kilometer course and finished in a total team time of 1:30:01.54.
Individually, freshman Ben Redman of Spanish Fort, Ala., placed 2nd of 33 runners behind Huntingdon College's Jeffery Jenkins. Redman ran his first collegiate event in a time of 17:31.50, marking the 9th best 5-kilometer time in SHC Men's XC history.
Senior Will Kirkikis of Kenner, La. turned in the school's 11th best 5-kilometer time with a 3rd place performance and a mark of 17:55.17.
Freshman Conner Kirkikis was in 4th position with a time of 18:09.46, freshman John Russell from Cullman, Ala., came in 5th at 18:10.33, freshman Ben Fleming of Metairie, La., ran 6th at 18:15.08 and senior Christian Boyer from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School was 10th at 18:39.07.
Other runners for SHC were sophomore Fritz Boudreaux III in 13th place at 19:13.10, freshman Michael Anderson of Marietta, Ga., in 19:42.26 for 17th place, sophomore Brennan Gaffney of St. Louis, Mo., in 22nd position in a time of 20:29.71 and junior Ben Pace of Dallas, Texas, finished in 27th place at 21:41.22.
The Badgers next run on Saturday at the Azalea City Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama beginning at 9:55 a.m. at Brookley Gulf Pines Golf Course.
