MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College women's golf team shot a total 2-day team score of 677 (+101) to finish in 2nd place out of seven teams at the 2011 Alabama State University Fall Invitational at Lagoon Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
Spring Hill's Badgers shaved seven strokes off their totals during the second round to improve their scores from 342 on Day 1 to 335 on Day 2.
The host ASU Hornets took home the championship with a score of 663 (+87) over the par 72, 5825-yard course.
Individually for the Badgers, sophomore Avery Kyle of Plano, Texas, made a huge jump up the final standings by lopping seven strokes off her score to finish Tuesday's round with a 77 for a final score of 161 (+17) to move from 9th to 3rd place out of 36 golfers.
Senior Ann Marie Coan of St. Louis, Mo., improved from a tie for 10th place at 85 (+13) to 8th place with a score of 81 to finish at 166 (+22). Sophomore Katie Callahan from Prairie Village, Kan., however, suffered a score of 92 on Tuesday and fell from 4th to 13th place in a final score of 174 (+30).
Freshman Rachel Failla of New Orleans, La., closed in 16th position with 179 (+35), improving her score by 3 strokes, and sophomore Audrey Dombrowski of St. Louis, Mo., finished the event in 22nd position with a +40 score of 184, slicing six strokes from her score.
The Badgers will return home to host the 2-day SHC Shootout at the Spring Hill College Golf Course beginning on September 25.
