The Spring Hill College volleyball team cruised past Dillard University in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-13) non-conference decision at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday night.
Spurred by two consecutive service aces by senior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, the Badgers built out an early 12-4 lead in the first set.
The second set saw SHC jump out 6-0 and 12-1 before coasting to the 25-6 victory. Dillard rallied in the third set to trail 12-9, but a 7-point run by the Badgers iced the set as Spring Hill won 25-13.
Cao – the NAIA leader in kills per set at 5.29 – had seven kills and eight aces on the night to total 15.5 points scored. Sophomore middle hitter Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School collected eight kills, an ace and two total blocks for 11 points.
Sophomore libero Meredith Donald, also from McGill-Toolen, pulled in six digs and seven receptions while sophomore setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., handed out 22 assists.
For Dillard, Jessica Goods-Morris had six kills and Courtney Devold gave out 11 assists as Spring Hill outscored the Bleu Devils (1-3) by a 57-14 margin.
The Badgers (12-0) will host the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Divisional Crossover Tournament in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center this weekend beginning at 1 p.m. Friday when Loyola (La.) and 2nd ranked Lee Universities meet. SHC will face Brewton-Parker College (4-2) at 7 p.m.
