The Spring Hill College men's cross country team ran in 2nd place out of 5 teams at the annual Azalea City Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama on Saturday morning at Brookley Gulf Pines Golf Course.
As a team, the Badgers scored 56 points and averaged 29:49.51 over the 8-kilometer course and finished in a total team time of 2:29:07.51. USA won the event with 15 points.
Individually, Senior Will Kirkikis of Kenner, La. turned in a 9th place performance and a mark of 28:46.68 while freshman Ben Redman of Spanish Fort, Ala., placed 11th out of the of 39 competitors.
Freshman Conner Kirkikis was in 14th position with a time of 30:06.09, senior Christian Boyer from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School was 15th at 30:20.41, and freshman Ben Fleming of Metairie, La., ran 17th at 30:45.01 to round out the scorers for the Badgers.
Other runners for SHC were freshman Michael Anderson of Marietta, Ga., in 31:02.28 for 21st place, freshman John Russell of Cullman, Ala., ran in 22nd position for a time of 31:23.29, sophomore Fritz Boudreaux III of Pensacola, Fla., in 26th place at 32:27.90, sophomore Brennan Gaffney of St. Louis, Mo., in 31st position in a time of 33:09.21, junior Thomas Kinsey of Fairhope, Ala., in 34:03.47 and sophomore Jesus Fuentes of Opelousas, La., ran 37th at 38:24.01.
The Badgers next run at the University of West Florida's Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Fla., on Saturday, October 1.
