MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The undefeated and 22nd ranked Spring Hill College volleyball team took a 3-1 (23-25, 25-8, 25-11, 25-19) conference victory at Faulkner University on Tuesday night and in the process set a new school record for consecutive wins with their 19th straight victory.
The current streak surpasses the 18-game streak established from September 13 to October 30, 2010. The current Badgers have not suffered a loss since a 3-0 downturn to then No. 1 ranked Lee University on November 13 of last season in the 2010 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Tournament Championship finals.
Senior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, crushed 19 kills with a .267 attack percentage to go along with 16 digs and two solo blocks for the Badgers while sophomore setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., handed out 42 assists.
Senior Abbey Roam of Lebanon, Mo. took in 20 receptions with 10 kills and two service aces as freshman Megan Haber of Foley, Ala., batted back two solo blocks and tallied nine kills. Sophomore Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School enjoyed a solid performance with 13 kills, a service ace and a solo block.
For Faulkner (12-7, 1-4 SSAC West), Neysa Hernandez had seven kills and setter KK Lo passed around 17 assists. Abbie Melvin pulled in 23 digs for the Eagles.
Spring Hill outscored Faulkner 71-40 and totaled a .290 attack percentage while holding the Eagles to just a .030 attack percentage.
This weekend the Badgers (19-0, 7-0 SSAC West) will travel to Gainesville, Ga., to participate in the SSAC Divisional Crossover Tournament hosted by Brenau University beginning with a key match versus Southern Wesleyan University (17-1, 4-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
