ROME, Ga. – The Spring Hill College men's golf team shot a combined +9 final round score of 297 and moved from 6th place after Day 1 to 4th place out of 19 teams at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational held at Coosa Country Club on Tuesday.
Over the two days, SHC shot a combined score of 595 (+19) over the 6924-yard, par 72 course and finished 23 strokes behind tournament champion Lee University.
Individually for the Badgers, junior Joseph Webster of Trussville, Ala., and freshman Jordan Portal of Miami, Fla., shot identical scores of 147 (+3) and handed in mirroring score cards with both golfers shooting 74 on the first day and 73 on the second to close tied for 8th place out of 115 duffers.
Freshman Adam Spiller from Mobile's Cottage Hill Christian Academy finished strong and wound up in 26th place after closing Day 1 in 37th position. Spiller knocked two strokes off his opening round 76 for a 74 in the second round to card a 150 (+6).
Junior Nathan Ceille of Hales Corner, Wis., suffered a 3-stroke addition on Day 2 and closed in 33rd place with a score of 151 (74, 77, +7). Senior Robert ‘Bo' Cox stood at 94th place with a score of 164 at day's end, but did make a 2-stroke improvement in his second round score (83, 81, +20).
The Badgers will next play at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College/Holiday Inn Invitational at Windance Golf Club in Gulfport, Miss., on October 17-18.
