CLINTON, Miss. – Spring Hill College senior Kate Imwalle set yet another Badger record on Friday when she won the Individual Championship at the Watson Ford Invitational hosted by Mississippi College at Choctaw Trails in a time of 23:05.77 over the 6-kilometer course.
The McGill-Toolen Catholic High School graduate beat her own 6k time of 23:44.58 that she set earlier this season at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile. Imwalle captured her second individual meet championship of season besting 101 other runners.
As a team, the Badgers ran 5th out of 13 total teams at the event, but finished as the top team of four NAIA participants. SHC ran a total team time of 2:20:37.00 for 176 points and a team average time of 28:07.40.
Sophomore Emily Dolan, also a McGill-Toolen graduate, finished in 28th place and in the 7th best SHC women's 6k time on record at 26:42.67. Freshman Danielle Phillips from Hoover, Ala., scored with a 54th place finish in a time of 29:44.81, senior Meghan Kacic of Tampa, Fla., ran in 57th position at 30:06.57, and junior Kiearstan Carter of Mobile's Murphy High School closed in 62nd position at 30:57.18.
Sophomore Anna DeWine of Cedarville, Ohio, finished at the 31:40.21 mark for 65th place and sophomore Claire Stewart of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., was 66th at 31:40.64.
Other runners for the Badgers were senior Ashley Derenbecker from Bay St. Louis, Miss., who was 77th in a time of 33:00.03, freshman Lauren Whitney of Kiln, Miss., in 83rd at 34:10.27, and senior Alex Davis of St. Louis, Mo., who rounded out the SHC runners in 91st position in a time of 37:32.49.
The Badgers next run at the Southeastern Classic in Rome, Ga., on Saturday, October 22, at 10 a.m.
