The 19th ranked Spring Hill College volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-16) conference decision over the visiting Faulkner University Lady Eagles on Tuesday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

Spring Hill blitzed the Eagles with a 19-3 opening run in the first set before closing the frame with a 25-8 score.

In the second set, Faulkner (17-13, 2-9 SSAC West) found themselves down 9-4, but regrouped to tie the score at 12-12 and 14-14 before a 6-point run by the Badgers behind the serving of senior Holly Schultis of Pewaukee, Wis., made the score 20-14 in favor of the home team.

The third and final set was a nip-and-tuck affair as the teams traded points to reach a 5-5 deadlock. Spring Hill finally gained some breathing room with a 3-point service run by sophomore setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., to make it 10-6, but the backbreaker for the Eagles came on a 7-point Badger run to make it a 19-10 score.

Individually, senior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, paced the Badgers with 15 kills and five service aces while Nash handed out 33 assists.

Defensively, sophomore Meredith Donald of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School pulled down 10 digs and 13 receptions while freshman middle hitter Megan Haber of Foley, Ala., collected two solo blocks and a block assist.

K.K. Lo recorded 10 assists for Faulkner and Autumn Benson tallied six kills. Neysa Hernandez led the defense with 12 digs, 19 receptions and two solo blocks.

The Badgers (28-0, 11-0) will next travel to New Orleans, La., to face Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolfpack (14-8, 7-3) in a conference match beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday with the 2011 SSAC West Division title on the line.
