The Spring Hill College Badgers had three of its players selected to the Capital One Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team in District 2 (College Division) as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) on Friday afternoon. Seniors Abby Galen, Lorie Pendergast and Amber O'Connor were each named to the prestigious roster.
Galen, an Accounting major from St. Louis, Mo., scored seven goals with three assists for the Badgers in 2011. For her career, she has tallied 18 goals and nine assists in 72 appearances while also earning Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition.
Pendergast, an International Business & Hispanic Studies major from St. Louis, has started as a defender in all 72 Badger matches of her 4-year career at Spring Hill and handed out three assists. She has also been named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete.
O'Connor, a Biology major from Ham Lake, Minn., led the 2011 Badger squad with 19 points that were earned off seven goals and five assists. During her 2-year career at Spring Hill, she handed out seven assists and scored 12 goals, including six game-winners. She has also been named a 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete.
Voted upon by the CoSIDA membership, the Capital One Academic All-District Award® recognizes athletes holding a career GPA of 3.3 or higher while at the same time making significant on-field contributions to their team.
As district winners, all three student-athletes are now automatically nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America® team to be chosen by the CoSIDA membership.
