The 5th ranked University of Mobile Rams downed the Spring Hill College men's soccer team 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday night at the UM Soccer Field.
Mobile (16-1-1) opened the scoring in the 6th minute of play when the leading goal scorer in the NAIA, Deshorn Brown, poked in the ball off a rebounded save by SHC freshman goalkeeper Gabriel Jaramillo of a shot by Michael Azira.
The Rams then scratched the scoreboard for a second time when Marc Joseph headed home an entry pass from Brown in the 29th minute.
Brown would add two final goals in the 90th minute with 43 seconds and 26 seconds remaining in the contest.
Jaramillo faced 26 Mobile shots and made four saves while the Rams' keeper Xavier Audergon was not forced to make a save against just three shots by the Badgers.
Mobile now moves into the semifinal round of the SSAC Tournament that will be held in Gulfport, Miss., on Thursday.
Despite the disappointing end, the 2011 season was one of vast improvements for the Spring Hill College Badgers (10-9) as they posted the first winning season and first double-digits wins total in program history.
