BILOXI, Miss. – At the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) annual Volleyball Awards Banquet on Thursday night, Spring Hill College players walked away with 17 individual awards.
Topping the long list of accomplishments, senior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, won the 2011 SSAC Player of the Year and West Division Player of Year Awards while also appearing on the 2001 SSAC All-Academic team. Cao currently leads the NAIA in kills per set with a 5.38 average and is fourth in attack percentage at .408.
Sophomore Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., was named was the 2011 SSAC Setter of the Year as well as appearing on the All-West Division roster and the All-Academic squad. Nash currently ranks 9th in the NAIA with 10.94 sets per set.
Sophomore middle hitter Sha Sha Buchanan of McGill-Toolen Catholic High in Mobile was named All-West Division and All-Conference. Buchanan averages 2.21 kills per set with .95 total blocks per set.
Freshman middle hitter Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala., was named to the All-Freshman Team after averaging .86 blocks per set and totaling an attack percentage .339.
Sophomore Libero Meredith Donald of Mc-Gill Toolen was named to the All-West Division Team after totaling 3.74 digs per set and a .964 passing percentage.
Senior outside hitter Abbey Roam of Lebanon, Mo., sophomore outside hitter Jessica Hall of Grand Bay, Ala., and senior middle blocker Holly Shultis of Pewaukee, Wis., were also named to 2011 SSAC All-Academic Team. Shultis was additionally honored with selection to the 2011 Musco Lighting/SSAC Champions of Character Team.
