BILOXI, Miss. – The 18th ranked Spring Hill College volleyball team opened the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Tournament with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-4, 25-14) victory over Brewton-Parker College on Friday morning at the Ray Kroc Salvation Army Center.

Spring Hill held a 3-2 advantage early in the first set before a 5-0 Badger run behind the serving of senior Cassandra Marchand-Stewart of Grand Bay, Ala., made it an 8-2 SHC bulge.

From there, the Badgers never looked back and built out 18-8 and 22-8 leads before salting away the first set at 25-12.

SHC continued to roll in the second and third sets with 25-4 and 25-14 victories to secure the shutout.

Senior right side hitter Yiting Cao of Shanghai, China, racked up 17 kills and an impressive .739 attack percentage in the win. Sophomore setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo. handed out 31 assists and served two aces while sophomore libero Meredith Donald of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School claimed 12 digs and 12 receptions on the day.

As a team, SHC compiled a .543 attack percentage and scored 55 points while holding BPC (12-17) to a .012 attack percentage and 25 points scored.

The Badgers (37-0) now move into the semifinal round of the tournament versus the winner of Friday's Shorter Hawks/Mobile Rams match.
