HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team dropped an exhibition decision to the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon by a score of 76-41 at the Reed Green Coliseum.
After trailing the Eagles 47-19 at the half, the Badgers fell behind as much as 34 points at 68-34 with 7:51 remaining in the second half.
Spring Hill was led by junior guard Ricky Spears of Decatur, Ala., with 13 points in a 4-for-8 night from the field including 3-of-4 from the 3-point line.
Maurice Bolden led four Eagles in double digits with 15 points while Rashard McGill added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Badgers shot 35.9% (14-39) on the night and were 3-of-6 (50%) from long distance while USM was 47.5% (28-59) shooting and 9-of-25 (36%) from beyond the arc.
Eagle rebounders took down 40 boards in the contest and SHC managed to grapple just 18 rebounds from the home team. USM gave away 17 turnovers against three steals by Spring Hill while the Badgers fumbled it 23 times against eight steals for the Eagles.
SHC (1-1) will travel to Hammond, La., to face Southeastern Louisiana University in an exhibition game with the Lions on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m.
