HAMMOND, La. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team came up short in a 71-44 exhibition game loss at the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions on Tuesday night in the University Center.
Spring Hill trailed 39-18 at the half after allowing the Lions 21 points off turnovers while the Badgers managed just two points off SELU mistakes.
The deficit grew to as much as 28 points at 61-33 with 7:38 remaining in the game as the Lions' inside rebounding consistently outmuscled the Badgers.
Senior guard Stephen Burches of Hammond led Spring Hill with 11 points and sophomore forward Alex Looney of Mobile's Murphy High School tallied 10 points and eight rebounds.
Roosevelt Johnson scored 22 points with 10 rebounds for the Lions (1-1) while Brandon Fortenberry recorded 21 points for SELU.
The Badgers shot 28.6% (14-49) on the night and were 2-of-9 (22.2%) from long distance while the Lions were a blistering 50% (26-52) from the field including 6-of-15 (40%) from beyond the arc.
SHC (1-1) will next visit Cleveland, Ga. on Friday to take on the Truett-McConnell College Bears (1-1) beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST.
