SELMA, Ala. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team took a 70-57 non-conference win at the Concordia College-Selma Hornets on Tuesday night at the Jenkins Center.
The Badger jumped out to a 41-27 halftime lead and built as much as a 20-point advantage in the second half before Concordia (2-4) rallied to cut it to a 8-point deficit with six minutes remaining.
Spring Hill responded and pushed the lead back out to double digits before icing the game with free throws at the end.
Jake Thelen led Spring Hill with 14 points while Todd Martin contributed 13 points. As a team, SHC shot 59.5% (25-42) from the field and 42.9% (6-14) from the 3-point line.
John Nixon scored 17 points to pace the Hornets. CCS was 17-of-54 (31.5%) from the floor and just 5.3% (1-19) from outside the arc.
Spring Hill pulled down 32 rebounds and Hornets had 27 boards. The Badgers committed 21 turnovers against seven Hornet steals and Concordia suffered 13 turnovers in the face of seven Badger thefts.
SHC (3-2) will conclude the current six-game road trip on Tuesday in New Orleans, La., when they challenge the Dillard University Bleu Devils (0-4) in a non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
