LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team began a 7-game road swing with a non-conference loss at the University of West Alabama Tigers at Pruitt Hall on Sunday by the score of 77-42.
UWA (2-6) built a 22-4 lead just six minutes into the game and held a 39-14 cushion at the halftime intermission.
In the second half, the Badgers trailed by as much as 34 points with 10 minutes remaining as the Tigers motored to the 35-point win.
For the Badgers, junior guard LaSheena Nation of Hanceville, Ala., scored 11 points and junior center April Bradford from Pensacola, Fla., hauled down 11 rebounds. Spring Hill struggled to a 26.1% (18-69) shooting percentage and turned in a dismal 16% (4-25) in 3-point attempts. SHC turned the ball over 22 times and surrendered 12 steals to the Tigers.
Jamie Gunter scored 13 points with 13 rebounds for UWA while Brittany Weathers added another 10 points to the Tiger cause. Overall, West Alabama was 43.2% (32-74) from the floor and 30.8% (4-13) in 3-point shooting. The Tigers turned the ball over 14 times against 10 steals by SHC while also controlling the rebounding battle 53 to 45.
Spring Hill (4-6) will next visit the Southern University-New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights (2-4) in The Castle on Friday at 5:30 p.m. for non-conference match.
