TOWSON, Md. –Spring Hill College senior Yiting Cao was selected as a 2nd team member of the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Team in Women's Volleyball as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) on Monday morning.
During the 2011 season, Cao, a Graphic Design major from Shanghai, China, was also the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Player of the Year and was chosen to the Tachikara-NAIA All-America 1st team at Right Side Hitter.
She led the NAIA in kills per set this year with a 5.38 average, was 2nd in total kills with 731, finished 7th in the nation with a .382 attack percentage and her 68 service aces ranked 9th in the country.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA/NAIA championship sports.
Cao's appearance on the 2nd team roster is the highest ranking achieved by any of the five SHC student-athletes who have been selected to the Academic All-America® team.
