FLORENCE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost an exhibition contest 69-51 at the University of North Alabama in Flowers Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Spring Hill opened the game by racing a 7-0 lead in the first 90 seconds and continued to hold an 11-8 advantage five minutes into play.

The Lions (8-3) took their first lead of the contest at 13-11 off two free throws by Cierra Anderson at the 13:13 mark as SHC missed nine consecutive shots in a 4½ minute Badger drought.

The Badgers would fall behind by as much as six points on two occasions in the first half. SHC would rally to tie the game each time, however, with the first time coming off a 3-pointer by junior forward Jackie Higgenbotham of Birmingham, Ala., at 3:47 to make it 28-28 and the second time occurring via a converted free throw by junior guard Christina Watson of Brighton, Ala., with 9 seconds on the clock to knot the score at 34-34 going into the break.

UNA took a quick 46-38 lead early in the second period, but Spring Hill once again regrouped to cut it to a 46-43 deficit with 11 minutes play.

Unfortunately for SHC, the scoring once again dried up as the Lions held the Badgers scoreless for seven minutes from the 8-minute mark until just 56 seconds remained to play. By the end of the Spring Hill dry spell, the Lions held a commanding 66-49 cushion.

Spring Hill junior center April Bradford from Pensacola, Fla., paced the Badgers with 15 points and a game-high 19 rebounds while junior forward Kristin Rogers of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Higgenbotham each tallied 12 points.

As a team, SHC shot 35.5% (22-62) from the field and 29.4% (5-17) from 3-point distance. While the two teams battled to a draw under the boards with 38 rebounds each, turnovers continued to plague the Badgers as they committed 25 turnovers against just seven steals by UNA.

UNA was led by Dana Jackson with 19 points and Jasmine Horne with 17 points. The Lions shot 43.9% (25-57) from the field and scorched the nets from long distance with a 53.8% (7-13) effort in 3-point attempts. North Alabama turned the ball over 20 times against nine steals by the Badgers.

SHC (5-6, 1-3 SSAC) next travels to Marietta, Ga., to face the Southern Polytechnic State University Runnin' Hornets (1-10, 0-3) in a conference match on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. EST.
