The Spring Hill College women's basketball team fell 70-59 at the hands of the 21st ranked Loyola University (La.) Wolfpack in a conference outcome at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
Loyola (19-2, 11-2 SSAC) built out a 15-point lead at 38-23 heading into the halftime intermission, but the Badgers mounted an 8-0 run early in the second period to slice the disadvantage to just seven points at 42-35 with 15:27 left on the clock.
The Wolfpack took Spring Hill's best shot and recovered to rebuild a 70-54 margin with just 90 seconds left to play.
Junior Badger center April Bradford of Pensacola, Fla., tallied her 11th double-double effort of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds while sophomore guard Bria Bohanon of Ponchatoula, La., added 13 points and freshman point guard Bethany Collins of Apex, N.C., poured in 12 points.
The Badgers connected on 19 of their 62 shots from the field for a 30.6% night including a 2-of-12 (16.7%) effort from 3-point distance. Spring Hill lost 17 turnovers against eight steals by Loyola, but out-rebounded the ‘Pack 47-45.
Keiva Council led all scorers with 21 points for the Wolfpack and Jasmine Brewer contributed another 17 points. Amy Moody also chipped in 13 points for Loyola and Megen Berner collected 10 rebounds with nine points.
Overall, Loyola was 40% (26-65) from the field and 31.3% (5-16) from 3-point land. The Wolfpack lost just 12 turnovers against four SHC steals.
Spring Hill (8-14, 3-10 SSAC) will host the Auburn-Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks 10-12, 4-8 SSAC) in an SSAC West Division match on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
