JACKSON, Miss. – The Spring Hill College baseball team swept both ends of a non-conference road doubleheader from Tougaloo College by the scores of 4-0 and 9-1 on Saturday afternoon. The day's first victory gave Head Coach Frank Sims his 700th career win at Spring Hill College.
Freshman Daniel Pitfield (2-0) of Mandeville, La., went the distance in the opener for his first career complete-game shutout victory.
In the second game, freshman leftie Cyrus Beermann (1-0) of Tampa, Fla., collected his first Badger victory by going five innings against the Bulldogs (0-14).
At the plate, SHC sophomore second baseman Brian Sims from Mobile's Murphy High School had two hits in both ends of the twin bill for four total safeties on the afternoon and freshman catcher Ryan Stevens of Theodore, Ala., had three hits in the second game including a 2-run homer.
Sims, who holds the Badger record for career coaching wins, now holds a record of 701-714-3 at Spring Hill and an overall collegiate record of 737-724-3, standing at No. 15 on the career wins list for active NAIA head coaches.
Spring Hill (7-3, 3-0 SSAC) will travel to Franklin Springs, Ga., this weekend to play a 3-game conference series with Emmanuel College (8-7, 0-3 SSAC) beginning with a single game on Friday at 5 p.m. and concluding Saturday in a noon doubleheader.
