FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College baseball team closed out a three-game conference series at Emmanuel College with a split decision of a doubleheader by taking a 2-0 victory in the first game before falling 11-1 in the nightcap on Saturday afternoon.
In the first game, junior Casey Adams (2-0) went the distance to earn his first shutout of the year and allowed just six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
The only scores of the game came in the 4th inning when Badger freshman centerfielder Andy Robbins led off with a double to right field and was driven in two batters later by fellow freshman designated hitter Ryan Stevens with a single. Later in the frame, senior shortstop Ryan Cummings would score from 3rd base off a single to right by senior left fielder Kendell Carvin.
Emmanuel (11-8, 3-3 SSAC) took the second game 11-1 following an uncharacteristically sloppy defensive effort by Spring Hill in which the Badgers committed six errors.
Junior Nick Schmiemeier (1-2) took the loss and sophomore Rick LaForce collected two of Spring Hill's 10 hits.
Spring Hill (8-5, 3-3 SSAC) will next travel to the Crescent City to take on the University of New Orleans (6-2) in a non-conference game beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
