NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College baseball team took a 15-6 decision over the University of New Orleans (UNO) in a non-conference contest at Maestri Field on Tuesday night.

The Privateers (6-3) roughed up Spring Hill freshman starter Daniel Pitfield of Mandeville, La., for four runs in the first inning, but the Badgers answered in the top of the 2nd inning with four runs of their own off senior leftie Cory Hoffman of UNO.

Second baseman Brian Sims from Mobile's Murphy High School would give the Badgers their first lead of the night with an RBI single in the 4th inning.

Pitfield settled down to keep the Privateers off the board in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but Jonathan Coco would touch the right hander for an RBI single to tie the game in the 4th frame.

Spring Hill sent 10 batters to the plate against the Privateers' Kyle Blancaneaux (0-1) and regained the lead at 11-5 in the 5th inning aided by two Privateer fielding errors.

Senior shortstop Ryan Cummings from Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High School added a 2-RBI triple in the 9th inning and Sims collected three hits on the night.

Freshman Jack Howard (1-1) of Decatur, Ala., took the win in relief for Spring Hill.

Spring Hill (9-5, 3-3 SSAC) will visit the Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks (12-8, 4-2) for a three-game conference series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and concluding with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.
