The Spring Hill College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Concordia University (Mich.) Cardinals on Friday afternoon by the scores of 8-0 and 6-1 at Murray Field.
The first contest was a resumption of a game suspended on Wednesday afternoon with SHC leading 6-0 with one out in the top of the 3rd inning and ended after six innings at 8-0 on the Mercy Rule.
Badger junior Linsey Dickerson (2-1) went the distance in Game 1 with seven strikeouts and a walk while scattering four hits.
In the second game, freshman Kathryn Ingles (2-1) was a complete-game winner giving up just five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Ingles went scoreless until being touched for an unearned run with two outs in the 7th inning.
Jeni Bollenbacher took the losses in both games for the Cardinals (0-6) allowing 13 hits, nine earned runs, and three walks with two strikeouts in just 3.2 innings of work.
For the day at the plate, leadoff hitter and left fielder junior Mariha Partman had four hits including two doubles, a stolen base and three runs scored. Freshman third baseman Elise deBruler collected four hits and four RBI. Senior first baseman Jenny Laird had three hits with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Three freshmen also enjoyed big days on offense as second baseman Melanie Alterio, catcher Jade Bourgeois and centerfielder Taylor Webre each had three hits.
Shortstop Angela Martin paced the Cardinals with four hits and Bollenbacher added two more safeties to the Concordia book.
The Badgers (4-2) and the Cardinals have cancelled the doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Murray Field due to the threat of inclement weather. Spring Hill next plays Madonna University (0-1) at the University of Mobile Classic on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
