No. 21 SPSU kept SHC off-balance at the plate

The Spring Hill College baseball team opened a 3-game conference series with an 11-0 loss to 21st-ranked Southern Polytechnic State University on Friday night at historic Stan Galle Field.
 

Southern Poly broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the 5th inning with three runs off SHC starter Michael Moch (2-3) in a frame highlighted by a 2-run single by SPSU 3rd baseman Jon White.

The Badgers managed just two hits off Hornet starter Casey Shiver (6-2) who went the distance in the win with a walk and four strikeouts.

Moch took the loss in five innings of work giving up five hits with five walks, three hit batters and no strikeouts.

SPSU catcher Jordan Williams was 4-for-5 with four RBI including a 2-out, 3-run homerun to right field in the 8th inning. Shortstop Trey Malone also added two hits and two RBI to the Hornet cause.

Spring Hill (11-14, 3-10 SSAC) and the Hornets (20-9, 9-4 SSAC) will conclude this series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Stan Galle Field.
