HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Spring Hill College softball team wrapped up play at the William Carey University Invitational on Saturday morning with a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma Baptist University.
Spring Hill took an early 2-0 lead on OBU (12-12) in the 1st inning when senior catcher Jenny Laird sent a 2-run homerun over the left field fence on a 1-2 count.
OBU rallied to tie the game with two runs in the 3rd inning off a single by shortstop Ashley Clifton to centerfield, but the Badgers would go ahead 3-2 in the top of the 7th frame when shortstop Jade Bourgeois' triple found the gap in right-center and brought Laird home from 2nd base.
Linsey Dickerson (6-7) got out of a jam in the final half inning with a runner on third and one out on the board by coaxing a pop out to 2nd base and a ground out to short to seal the victory.
Dickerson went the distance in the win and allowed just five hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
Cassidi Henderson (5-5) took the loss with three hits a walk and two strikeouts.
Spring Hill (10-10) will host non-conference foe Birmingham-Southern College (9-3) in a doubleheader at Murray Field on Monday at 1 p.m.
