The Spring Hill College baseball team took an 8-2 non-conference loss to the Arkansas Tech University Wonder Boys on Monday evening at historic Stan Galle Field.
For the Badgers, senior shortstop Ryan Cummings of Mobile's McGill-Toolen Catholic High was 2-for-4 with a solo homerun in the 4th inning for his first round-tripper of the season. Freshman centerfielder Andy Robbins from Kirkwood, Mo., also had two hits for the Spring Hill cause.
Sophomore starter Alex Summers of Mobile's Baker High fell to 1-1 on the year in 3.1 innings of work with nine hits, a strikeout and no walks.
The Wonder Boys (13-14) were led by first baseman Jonathan Finnegan who collected a single, double and 2-run homerun to left for four RBI on the day. Other big hitters for ATU included catcher Landon Sullins, 3rd baseman Nate Wilder and shortstop Drew Stanton who had two hits each. Wilder's second hit was a 2-run blast over the right field fence in the 3rd that put ATU up 3-0.
Danny Parker (1-0) was the winner in six innings with five hits, two walks and strikeout.
This weekend Spring Hill (13-15, 5-10 SSAC) and will travel to Jackson, Miss., to play a 3-game conference series with 15th-ranked Belhaven University (21-12, 7-8 SSAC) beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. and concluding on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Smith-Wills Stadium.
