The Spring Hill College baseball team lost a non-conference game at the University of Mobile 5-2 in a game that was stopped with two out in the bottom of the 8th inning due to rain at Jacobs Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rams (23-22) scored in the 3rd inning when left fielder Parker Hollinghead drove a run-scoring triple into left-centerfield that was followed by a sacrifice fly by centerfielder Josh Blaylock that made it a 2-0 advantage for Mobile.
Spring Hill answered back in the 6th inning as 1st baseman John Hollingsworth plated two runners with a single to left-center to knot the game at 2-2.
Mobile then took the lead for good in the 7th inning as Hollinghead ripped a one-out, run-scoring shot to the right side of the drawn-in Badger infield to make it a 3-2 game in favor of the Rams headed to the 8th inning as rain began to fall.
In the 8th inning, Mobile would score twice more before the umpires ended the contest with two outs and Ram runners at 2nd and 3rd bases.
SHC reliever Alex Summers (1-3) took the loss in 1.1 innings of work with three hits, no walks and no strikeouts. Corey Fountain was the winner in seven innings with six hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Shane Ikner earned the save for UM in a full inning with no hits or walks and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Badgers were paced by shortstop Ryan Cummings with three hits including a triple. Mobile's Hollinghead had three hits and two RBI and shortstop Cameron White had two hits and two runs scored.
Spring Hill (20-26) will travel down Interstate 10 to Pensacola on Wednesday evening for a non-conference game with the Argonauts of the University of West Florida (28-13) beginning at 5 p.m.
