The Spring Hill College baseball team rallied to score five runs in the top of the 9th inning on Saturday evening to pick up a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) victory over Brewton-Parker College 8-7 in Mt. Vernon, Ga., and in the process also handed Badger head coach Frank Sims his 750th career win.
In his 28th season as a head coach in the NAIA, Sims has compiled a record of 750-747-3 in 27 years at Spring Hill College after spending a season as the skipper at Milton College in 1983.
Sims began his career at SHC in 1985 with just 10 games remaining in the season and has been calling the shots for the Badgers ever since. Over his years at Spring Hill, his teams have posted six 30-win seasons, two 40-win years and four conference championships. Sims has coached over 60 all-conference players and been named a conference Coach of the Year on four occasions.
His résumé also includes being an assistant coach at Eastern Illinois, Morehead State and Wisconsin-White Water and three successful seasons as head coach at Sparta High School (Ill.) from 1977 to 1980.
Sims graduated from Eastern Illinois in 1977 and holds a Master's degree from Morehead State. He and his wife, Dana, have four children: Drew, 27, Sarah, 24, Kelsey, 22, and Brian, 20.
