PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College baseball team lost a non-conference game at the University of West Florida by a score of 9-6 at Jim Spooner Field on Wednesday evening.
Spring Hill took an early 5-1 lead with a 4-run 3rd inning sparked by a 3-run homer out of left field by senior catcher Fred Rossi and a 2-out RBI single by 3rd baseman Justin Martin.
The Argonauts, however, exploded for a 6-run bottom of the 6th inning that made it 9-5 in favor of the home team. Rossi would scratch out a 6th Badger run by scoring off a fielder's choice grounder by Martin in the 7th, but SHC could draw no closer.
Cyrus Beermann (3-1) took the loss in relief for Spring Hill after allowing four earned runs off three hits and a walk in just two-thirds of an inning.
Jordan DeLorenzo (5-2) picked up a win in relief by going 3.1 innings with five hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
At the plate, SHC was paced by Rossi with his homerun and a double that brought in a total of three RBI while designated hitter Rick LaForce and centerfielder Andy Robbins each had two hits in the contest.
UWF 2nd baseman Leo Lamarche had two hits and an RBI for the Argos.
Spring Hill (20-27) will wrap up the 2012 season with a three-game home series at historic Stan Galle Field versus conference foe Truett-McConnell College (17-29-1, 5-21 SSAC) this weekend beginning with a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. and concluding on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.
