KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Thursday that Spring Hill College placed three members of its men's golf team on the 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete team with J.D. Sabio, Chris Cartmill and Nathan Ceille earning the prestigious honor.
Sabio, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., with the dual majors of Finance/Economics and Marketing/Management, is now a two-time winner of the award. Juniors Cartmill (right) of Chesterfield, Mo., and Ceille (left) of Hales Corner, Wis., are first time recipients. Cartmill majors in Biology while Ceille majors in Marketing/Management.
Since the award was introduced in 1979, a total of 147 SHC student-athletes have received Scholar Athlete recognition from the NAIA.
This year a total of 133 male golfers were named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
